Museum of Design in Plastics (MoDiP)

This project is a collaboration between the PlastIC Lab and the Museum of Design in Plastics (MoDiP) at the Arts University Bournemouth, UK, to identify the different types of plastic materials used in the museum’s collection of chairs. The project utilises portable Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to determine the composition of the chairs, particularly those destined to be part of an upcoming MoDiP exhibition, Take a seat.

This project provides MoDiP with a deeper understanding of the materials that this collection includes, helping the curator to ensure the longevity of the collection through suitable storage and exhibition.

Aims and Objectives:

    • Material Identification: Material Identification: Use portable FTIR to identify the different
           plastic materials of the chairs.

The full FTIR spectra will be stored in the museum’s database and will be available for further research.
