The Project

Mission

The Plastic Innovation and Curation Research Centre (PlastIC) at Arts University Bournemouth fosters excellence in research and practice for developing and disseminating knowledge for the benefit of heritage, design, and the future sustainability of plastic products, helping develop new knowledge for museums and manufacturing industries.

Vision

We seek to lead groundbreaking research that combines scientific expertise with design insight, providing solutions that will support both the heritage sector, by conserving plastic artefacts, and the manufacturing industry, by developing more sustainable products. By taking the understanding of how plastics change over time from the heritage sector we can better inform manufacturing industries on their designing approach to using plastics to create more sustainable products and help develop new plastic materials for tomorrow’s industries. Through collaboration, education, and the development of new methodologies, we will shape a future where plastics contribute positively to our understanding of our cultural history and are used sustainably in our future.
